(NEW YORK) — A report put out by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is recommending that Russia be banned from athletic competitions, reports BBC News.
An independent WADA commission studied accusations of cover-ups, doping, and extortion in Russian athletics to complile the report.
The findings also implicated the International Association of Athletics Federations, which was cited for failure to prevent anti-doping, says BBC News.
WADA wants five coaches and athletes to receive lifetime doping bans. Additionally, the report says that the 2012 London Olympics were “sabotaged.”
The findings in the report could result in Team USA receiving more medals.
Two of the Russians targeted in the report won gold and bronze Olympic medals in the 800m in London.
American athlete Alysia Montano finished 5th in the 2012 event. The World Anti-Doping Agency wants both Russian athletes banned for life. This course of action would promote Montano to third place and taking the bronze.
