KS And NE Numbers For USDA’s Stocks Report

Nebraska corn stocks in all positions on September 1, 2016 totaled 216 million bushels, up 19 percent from 2015, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 84.0 million bushels are stored on farms, up 65 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 132 million bushels, are up 1 percent from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 16.2 million bushels, up 4 percent from last year. On-farm stocks of 2.15 million bushels are down 19 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks of 14.0 million bushels are up 8 percent from 2015.

Wheat stored in all positions totaled 94.9 million bushels, up 66 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 15.5 million bushels are up 128 percent from a year ago while off-farm stocks of 79.4 million bushels are up 58 percent from last year.

Sorghum stored in all positions totaled 1.63 million bushels, up 80 percent from 2015. On-farm stocks of 85,000 bushels are down 32 percent, while off farm holdings of 1.55 million bushels are up 98 percent from last year.

On-farm oats totaled 1.0 million bushels, down 41 percent from 2015.

Winter wheat production is estimated at 70.7 million bushels, up 54 percent from last year, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The area harvested for grain totaled 1.31 million acres, up 8 percent from 2015. Planted acreage totaled 1.37 million, down 8 percent from a year earlier. The yield is a record high 54.0 bushels per acre, up 16.0 bushels from last year and up 5 bushels per acre from the previous high set in 2014.

Oat production is estimated at 1.50 million bushels, down 44 percent from 2015. Area harvested for grain, at 25,000 acres, is down 38 percent from last year. Planted acreage totaled 135,000, unchanged from a year earlier. Average yield is 60.0 bushels per acre, down 7.0 bushels from 2015.

Kansas corn stocks in all positions on September 1, 2016 totaled 64.0 million bushels, down 7 percent from 2015, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 11.0 million bushels are stored on farms, down 19 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 53.0 million bushels, are down 4 percent from last year.

Wheat stored in all positions totaled 533 million bushels, up 41 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 43.5 million bushels are up 89 percent from 2015 and off-farm stocks of 490 million bushels are up 38 percent from last year.

Sorghum stored in all positions totaled 20.3 million bushels, up 123 percent from 2015. On-farm stocks of 2.10 million bushels are up 112 percent from a year ago and off-farm holdings of 18.2 million bushels are up 124 percent from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 5.34 million bushels, down 41 percent from last year. On-farm stocks of 740 million bushels are down 52 percent from a year ago and off-farm stocks, at 4.60 million bushels, are down 38 percent from 2015.

Oats stocks stored in off farm positions totaled 691,000 bushels, down 19 percent from a year ago.

Winter wheat production is estimated at 467 million bushels, up 45 percent from last year and largest in 13 years, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The area harvested for grain totaled 8.2 million acres, down 8 percent from 2015. Planted acreage totaled 8.5 million, down 8 percent from a year earlier. The yield is a record high 57.0 bushels per acre, up 20.0 bushels from last year and 8 bushels above the previous high set in 1998.

Oat production is estimated at 1.71 million bushels, down 34 percent from 2015. Area harvested for grain, at 30,000 acres, is down 25 percent from last year. Planted acreage totaled 120,000, up 26 percent from a year earlier. Average yield is 57.0 bushels per acre, down 8 bushels from 2015.
