Hooper receives AP All-American mention
Lincoln - Nebraska's Jordan Hooper was one of 17 players nationally to earn mention as an Associated Press Preseason All-American this week.
Hooper, a 6-2 junior forward from Alliance, Neb., received votes from a 40-member national media panel that chose the six-player All-America squad. Earlier this fall, Hooper was one of 25 players national to claim a spot on the Wade Watch List as a contender for national player-of-the-year honors.
Hooper was one of three players from the Big Ten Conference to earn mention, joining Penn State junior Maggie Lucas and Ohio State senior Tayler Hill.
Last season, Hooper averaged 18.9 points and a Big Ten-leading 9.3 rebounds per game. She also led the Big Ten with 14 double-doubles on the year on her way to first-team All-Big Ten honors. She was also a member of the Big Ten All-Tournament Team, before earning honorable-mention All-America recognition from the AP at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season.
Nearly one-third of the 17 players listed among the best in the nation by the AP will make appearances in the Huskers' final season at the Devaney Center in 2012-13. Maryland's Alyssa Thomas, who earned one of the top six spots on the All-America team, will face Hooper and the Huskers on Wednesday, Nov. 28 as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Oral Roberts' Kevi Luper will bring her scoring abilities to the Devaney Center on Thursday, Dec. 20, before Hill and Ohio State come to Lincoln on Thursday, Feb. 14. Lucas and the Lady Lions of Penn State will face Hooper and the Huskers in their final home game at the Devaney Center on Sunday, March 3.
Hooper and the Huskers conclude exhibition action on Sunday when they play host to Nebraska-Kearney. Tip-off between the Huskers and Lopers at the Bob Devaney Sports Center is set for 2:05 p.m.
