Edwards wins honor second week in a row
Junior right-hander Tatum Edwards was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Edwards has won the weekly pitcher-of-the-week award two times this season and four times in her career.
Edwards was honored after posting a 2-0 record with a 0.50 ERA at Penn State last weekend. She opened the series with a three-hitter, allowing only one run in Nebraska's 3-1 victory. Then in the finale, Edwards tossed a one-hit shutout to help the Huskers clinch the No. 2 seed for this week's Big Ten Tournament at Bowlin Stadium. She held opposing hitters to a .098 batting average to help her finish with the lowest ERA and lowest opponent batting average of any Big Ten pitcher during the conference season.
Edwards also figures to be honored on Wednesday, when the All-Big Ten teams are announced. The postseason accolades come one day before the Big Ten Tournament begins at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers open play in the tournament at 7 p.m. on Friday against the winner of Thursday's game between No. 7 seed Michigan State and 10th-seeded Purdue.
