Rural Eustis fire quickly contained

The Eustis Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a fire Monday morning but, it was quickly contained despite high winds. It occurred around 9:14am about 13 miles south of Eustis down the east canyon along Highway 18. Fire Chief Brent Wolf says some horse barns were cleaned out and the manure was piled near a windbreak. Wolf says the fire is believed to have started by spontaneous combustion and it took off into the trees. Wolf says he was in the area delivering fuel and reported directly to the scene where a loader was used to cover up the pile. It was then watered down after fire units arrived.
