Martinez named player of the week

A 407-yard total offense outburst by Nebraska junior quarterback Taylor Martinez has earned him Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors today.

Martinez threw for 342 yards, the second-most of his career, and three touchdowns on 27 completions. He added 65 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Martinez engineered two fourth quarter scoring drives, erasing a 12-point deficit and tying the largest fourth quarter comeback in school history.

The award is the fourth career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor for Martinez. He last won the award after the come from behind win against Wisconsin.

The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week is Jordan Hill of Penn State. The Special Teams Player of the Week is Brendan Gibbons of Michigan. And the Freshman of the Week is Kyle Carter of Penn State.
