Crisis counselors will be available after Alliance teen's traffic death

Members of the Alliance High Crisis team will be available when classes resume Monday following the death of a 16 year old Alliance boy and injuries to an 18 year old girl in an auto accident Thursday evening.

The Nebraska State Patrol says Deion Hitchcock died in the accident that occurred a mile south of the Box Butte-Sheridan County line. The passenger,Crystal Pannell, was taken to Box Butte General Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.

Principal Dr Pat Jones says the Crisis Team says having counselors at Alliance High and possibly other schools will be a key part of the plan for Monday, but he hopes parents will talk with their children about the accident before then.

The Nebraska State Patrol says Hitchcock was traveling south on Highway 87 when he lost control of the 1999 Chevy Suburban he was driving, overcorrected and the car went into the east ditch, where the vehicle struck a power pole. Hitchcock was not wearing seat belts and was ejected from the vehicle.
