Arapahoe holds off Elm Creek
Arapahoe's magical season continued on Tuesday night as they advanced past Elm Creek 32-26 in the Class D1 state football quarterfinals. Quarterback Caden Waverka hit Gage Schutz on a swing pass that he took into the end zone from 20 yards out with 14 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Warriors the win. Waverka had a huge game rushing 37 times for 234 yards and 4tds.
Elm Creek just as they did against Burwell in the second round of the playoffs, came charging back in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 26. Tailback Zac Crowley who finished the game with 212 yards rushing scored twice in the fourth quarter for the Buffaloes. Crowley also had a 70 yard kickoff return for Elm Creek in the first half. Elm Creek was looking for its first ever trip to the Class D1 state semis and ends the year at 9-2. Arapahoe improves to 11-0 and travels to Elgin for the state semis next week.
