Southern Valley has season halted by Bergan
Defending C2 State Champion Southern Valley gave it a good run but came up short on Thursday night at the boys state basketball tournament in Lincoln as the Eagles fell to top ranked Fremont Bergan 68-59. Southern Valley got off to a great start and led 17-9 at the end one and eventually got out to a 10 point first half lead, before Bergan closed the first half with a 24-9 run and led 33-28 at the break.
The Eagles went on an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter and carved a 12 point deficit down to 4 at 53-49 but that is as close as they would get. Hunter Quinn wrapped up a great junior season by leading the Eagles with 16 points, Alex Kaup had 15, while Seth Miller scored 14. Southern Valley finishes the year at 21-4. Fremont Bergan improved to 22-3 and will play in state semifinals at 3:45 against Doniphan Trumbull.
