Eagles headed to State Semifinal
The last Class D1 state quarterfinal at the boys state basketball tourney turned into a track meet on Thursday afternoon as Overton held of Lourdes Central Catholic 65-58. The Eagles trailed early by 6, only to grab a 26-19 advantage at half. Overton would then jump out to a 17 point lead after they scored the first ten points of the second half to led 39-17. That's when Lourdes rallied and eventually cut the deficit to one at 40-39 late in the third quarter.
Overton however, would hang on to the win, thanks to the play of Senior Tanner Ryan who had a double double with 32 points. He scored 25 points after half to propel the Eagles to the State Semifinals against Howells-Dodge. Also in double figures for Overton were Caleb Ecklund and Joel Shafer who each had 10 points. Overton is now 23-4 on the year. Lourdes was led by Mitch Gude who scored 21. The Knights end the season at 20-7. Friday's State Semifinal can be heard on 93.1 KRVN FM and krvn.com.
