Cozad falls to Wayne
The first game of the first round of the Class C1 boys state championship matched the 23-4 Wayne Blue Devils against the 17-8 Cozad Haymakers. In one of the more intriguing matchups of the first day of the tournament these two teams came in red hot. The Haymakers winners of 12 of their last 14 and Wayne the winner of 22 of their last 24. After one quarter Cozad would have a 15-14 lead, but the second quarter would spell the Haymakers doom as Wayne would out score them 22 -7.
Cozad would struggle outside the 3 point line all game hitting only 3 of 23. They would make a run in the fourth quarter cutting the one time 20 point lead down to 6, before Wayne put it away winning 60-45. Wayne's Ben Hoskins finished with 17, Jalen Barry chipped in with 15. For Cozad, they were led in scoring by Jake Paulsen who had 14 and Conor Young who had 12. Cozad finishes the season 17-9, Wayne goes on to to play Wahoo in the second round.
