Gothenburg Police and the Dawson County Sheriff's Office have issued a news release regarding the discovery of a body in the Cozad Canal outside the Gothenburg city limits. The body has been identified as that of 34 year old James Michael Houchin of Gothenburg who was reported as a missing person on Tuesday and was being sought on an arrest warrant issued by the Dawson County Court Thursday for Burglary, a class III felony.

The body was recovered from the water on the north side of the Cozad Canal, approximately 350 yards west of Highway 47, south of Gothenburg. The body was transported to Gibbon where an autopsy was conducted. The initial autopsy indicates drowning was the cause of death. The joint investigation is continuing according to Dawson County Sheriff Gary Reiber and Gothenburg Police Chief Randy Olson.
