Southern Valley's Lambert named Bridgeport Superintendent
A central Nebraska superintendent has been named as the new superintendent at Bridgeport Public Schools.
The Board of Education announced Saturday that Chuck Lambert, the current superintendent at Southern Valley Public Schools in Oxford, will replace Dave Miller, who is resigning at the end of the school year.
"I've heard a lot of good things about the area," Lambert said. "In fact, I've not heard one bad thing about the area."
Lambert, who has been the Southern Valley Superintendent since 2005, will begin his duties in Bridgeport on July 1st.
"It was a very hard decision for me to leave Southern Valley," he said. "When I arrived nine years ago, we had three separate schools in three different cities. We have a great facility now, and there's great learning going on their, but I'm ready for a new challenge."
Lambert said that he experienced building a new school in Southern Valley. He said that Southern Valley built a new school seven years ago, and said that the project was a similar time-frame as the school addition in Bridgeport.
"They have a very aggressive time frame," he said. "I really like the plans, and there's a great group of people working on the school."
Lambert said that the current timeline would be to get the 16 elementary school rooms completed by December, so they could be used after Christmas and the old building could be torn down. Then, the gym, auditorium and central offices could be completed in time for the 2015-2016 school year.
Lambert was at West Holt Public Schools in Atkinson prior to Southern Valley.
Lambert was chosen after the board interviewed four finalists this past week. The other finalists were Omaha Nation Public Schools Superintendent Thomas Carlstrom, McPherson County Schools Superintendent Joe Sherwood, and Ollie, Iowa Substitute Teacher Thomas Barr.
