Looking at the Nationís Balance Sheet
The National Farmers Union urges Congress to take action on tax reform in addition to spending reductions. While a lot of discussion recently has been about impending cuts that could happen during sequestration - NFU President Roger Johnson says it's only half the matter - and the best way to deal with the deficit is to sensibly raise revenues and reduce expenditures. NFU believes Congress must also make sure more middle class families and individuals aren't required to pay higher taxes because of the Alternative Minimum Tax. Another bullet point on NFU's priority list is for the estate tax to remain effective and fair - and Johnson says that's because it's an important part of the nation's federal tax code. He says NFU looks forward to working with Congress and President Obama to make sure a workable compromise can be reached.
