Livestock, Poultry Producers Seek Relief
Livestock and poultry producers are seeking help to address a short corn supply, save thousands of jobs and keep food affordable for American families. With serious drought conditions moving across nearly two-thirds of the country - they say we have reached a critical juncture where federal policy meets real world realities.
The extreme weather conditions - according to livestock and poultry groups - have caused a spike in corn prices and predictions that the U.S. may experience a severe corn shortage this summer.
The groups - including the National Pork Producers Council, National Cattlemen's Beef Association, National Turkey Federation and National Chicken Council - say another short corn crop would be devastating to the animal agriculture industry, food manufacturers, foodservice providers and consumers.
