Vilsack Uncertain of Farm Billís Future
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack doesn't seem to certain about the farm bill's prospects in the lame duck session. According to the Hagstrom Report - Vilsack has said he believes the Republicans are trying to align the bill with the budget proposal of House Budget Chair Paul Ryan - and he is concerned rural Americans will be asked to provide more than their fair share for deficit reduction. Vilsack added that the process is more complicated now. Instead of the focus being solely on rural America - as it should be - he said it's now put into the context of sequester, deficit reduction and tax policy. The Secretary is a bit skeptical given that the people who couldn't solve those problems in two years will now have to solve them in four weeks.
