New Sustainability Self-Assessment Tool Available for Produce Industry
The United Fresh Produce Association has launched its Sustainability Guide and Self-Assessment Tool to help producers and partners develop, assess and communicate their sustainability programs - and better understand resource stewardship, environmental impacts, social accountability and economic success. Ray Gilmer - United Fresh Vice President of Issues Management and Communication - says these four areas define the most important aspects of sustainability for the fruit and vegetable industry. Gilmer says this tool can be valuable for any type of company in the produce industry.
The Guide also provides a way for producers to share the story of their practices and processes many incorporate in their operations. After completing a self-evaluation of their sustainability programs - Gilmer says producers can develop concrete information to use in their own business or share with others. He says this guide is not an audit - but a tool to increase knowledge, track progress and tell the produce industry's commitment to sustainability.
