USDA Rural Development Loan Program Offers Way to Save Money

On Wednesday - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced USDA will take steps to save consumers money on their energy bills in partnership with rural electric cooperatives. Vilsack says energy efficiency retrofitting can shrink home energy use by 40-percent - which saves consumers money and helps rural utilities manage their electric load more efficiently. USDA plans to provide rural electric cooperatives up to 250-million dollars to lend to business and residential customers for these improvements through the Energy Efficiency and Loan Conservation Program. Rural electric cooperatives and utilities will receive the funding and then re-lend it to help homeowners or businesses make energy efficiency improvements.
