Federal Healthcare Enrollment Deadline Extended
The official deadline for Americans to sign up for healthcare through the new federal health insurance exchange beginning January 1st was originally at midnight last night - but Obama Administration officials secretly switched the deadline to 11:59 p.m. tonight (Christmas Eve) - according to the Washington Post. The Post reports an individual familiar with the extension says it's intended as a buffer in case the website has trouble if a last-minute surge of users occurs. Last week - the insurance industry's main trade group America's Health Insurance Plans announced anyone who signed up by December 23rd would have until January 10th to pay their first month's insurance premium. So far - total enrollment through the federal marketplace is roughly 890-thousand people - as of Sunday.
