Stateline Bean Coop Honors Bean Breeding Specialist

Stateline Bean Producers Cooperative has honored Carlos Urrea, dry bean breeding specialist for the University of Nebraska, for his significant contribution to the advancement of the dry edible bean industry in western Nebraska.

Urrea was presented with the Joe Franks Memorial Achievement Award at the Stateline Cooperative annual meeting held this week. Urrea joined the UNL Panhandle Research and Extension Center in 2005. One of his main goals is breeding new dry edible bean cultivars that are more tolerant to drought and heat.

The Joe Franks Memorial Award recognizes individuals who make significant contributions to the dry edible bean industry in Western Nebraska in areas such as breeding, production, harvesting, and handling of dry edible beans and who use innovation in the production of dry beans.
