Ag Spending Bill No Longer on House Legislative Agenda
Despite words of confidence from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor after the defeat of the farm bill - the annual ag spending budget has been pulled from the House calendar. The measure is no longer listed on House legislative notices regarding this week's floor schedule.
The Rules Committee was still scheduled to consider the bill Tuesday evening. That does leave a chance for floor action before the House adjourns for the Fourth of July recess.
House Ag Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Robert Aderholt told reporters Tuesday that this week is still a possibility - but said "we're on standby."
House Ag Chair Frank Lucas was expected to object to some of the legislated spending provisions in the appropriations bill when the Rules Committee met. If Lucas were to insist on his points of order - it could force more cuts in the bill.
