Nebraska Millet Harvest Nearing Completion

Proso millet harvest continues to progress ahead of average across the panhandle. Much of the crop was harvested before this past weekends snowfall. Scoular Grain Company Merchandiser Logan Snyder says harvest is nearly complete. He says the strong market is offsetting the lower yields from this this year's hot dry conditions

While yields were hit severely hit by this summer's drought, Snyder says test weights have been above normal. The only issues he has seen with the crop is a dockage for the presence for weeds and despite the drought the crop has been slow to dry down. Snyder has received a lot of millet with moisture above 13 percent moisture. Ideally Scoular would like to see those levels down a few more points.
