Vilsack Talking About the Importance of Getting the Farm Bill Done
Members of both Ag Committees and leaders of several ag organizations have stated the importance of getting a new farm bill through Congress this year. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack agrees - stating that U.S. lawmakers risk slowing or even stopping the economic growth in rural America if a farm bill isn't passed this year. Recognizing the challenges that could make farm bill passage difficult - Vilsack says nothing should deter Congress from acting. Without programs to support farmers and ranchers - Vilsack says uncertainty is created. He says that would impact decisions throughout the supply chain - compromising the progress seen in agriculture. As well as things have been going - he says Congress should want to get the farm bill done.
