NFU Hopeful Rule Passage Will Pave Way for Farm Bill Completion

National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson said House passage of a rule to relink farm programs and nutrition programs should pave the way for the farm bill to be completed this year. He said another extension of the 2008 Farm Bill isn't an adequate solution and urged House leadership to appoint conferees so the process of conferencing the Senate and House versions of the bill can begin right away. While Congress will obviously not complete a farm bill by its expiration - Johnson said NFU will continue to advocate for a five-year, comprehensive farm bill to be completed in the next month.
