NPPC Call to Action on King Amendment
As discussions on the farm bill continue - the National Pork Producers Council is calling its members to action on the so-called King Amendment. The amendment would prohibit a state from excluding lawfully produced agricultural products from other states from being sold within its borders. NPPC strongly supports this House-approved provision sponsored by Iowa Representative Steve King. NPPC notes the Humane Society of the United States is the chief opponent of the amendment. The group says HSUS has falsely claimed that the amendment could wipe out dozens of state laws on farm animal confinement, puppy mills, horse slaughter, shark finning and even dog meat. NPPC is encouraging its members to contact their elected officials to urge them to support the King Amendment.
