Senator Optimistic Trade Bill Can Move Through Congress
President Barack Obama formally nominated Senator Max Baucus of Montana to be the U.S. Ambassador to China last week. According to the Hagstrom Report and Bloomberg - the nomination caused some questions as to whether or not Baucus could lead the Senate to pass a trade promotion authority bill before he leaves the Senate.
Ohio U.S. Senator Rob Portman told Bloomberg he hopes the Senate will pass the bill before Baucus is confirmed - and that consideration of a Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement will follow.
Portman's reason - he doesn't think the US. Can negotiate the final TPP agreement without letting countries know there's a fast-track way to get it done.
