Rice Federation Responds to Study of Arsenic in Rice
Consumer Reports released a study on arsenic levels in rice Wednesday - suggesting consumers should take steps to avoid exposure to the chemical and also suggesting the Environmental Protection Agency phase out use of all arsenical pesticides. While the Food and Drug Administration says many foods absorb arsenic through the soil and water - the administration says it is too early to say if consumers should change their consumption. The USA Rice Federation says the report was incomplete and inaccurate on many levels. FDA has tested 200 samples of rice and rice products - but says it won't make any recommendations until it has collected and analyzed one-thousand more samples.
