Herb Struempler, 86, of Broken Bow, formerly of Oconto, passed away October 27, 2011

Herb Struempler, age 86, of Broken Bow, formerly of Oconto, passed away October 27, 2011 at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow.

He was born October 27, 1925 west of Oconto, Nebraska to Frederick "Fritz" and Minnie (Schwarze) Struempler. He entered into the United States Navy in 1944 and faithfully served our country in World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946.

Herb married Elsie Knispel on January 20, 1948 at the Christ Lutheran Church, southwest of Oconto. Together, the couple farmed and ranched west of Oconto before retiring in 1995.

Herb enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed spending time caring for his cattle. He had also obtained his pilots license. Above all, Herb loved spending time with his family.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo Community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, William, Gerald, Fritz, Erich and Theodore; 3 sisters, Edna, Erna and Lottie.

Herb is lovingly survived by his wife, Elsie of Broken Bow, formerly of Oconto; son, Maynard (Judy) Struempler of Oconto; 2 daughters, Sandra (Lloyd) Eggleston of Broken Bow and Diane (Harold) Kettelhake of Elk Creek, NE; 6 grandchildren, Cody (Tonia) Eggleston, Justin (Karisa) Eggleston, Martin (Lisa) Eggleston, Marla (Curtis) Stallbaumer, Rachel Kettelhake and Layne Kettelhake; 8 great grandchildren, Shelby, Bryce, Seth and Allison Eggleston and Issac, Owen, Abby and Emma Stallbaumer; 2 brothers, Henry Struempler of Broken Bow and Ronald Struempler of Oconto; 3 sisters, Elsie (LeRoy) Cyriacks of Gothenburg, Geraldine (Gary) Mitchell of Bella Vista, AK and Adele (Paul) Chandler of Plymouth, MN.; sister-in-laws, Bonnie Struempler and Norma Struempler and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorials may be given to the Christ Lutheran Cemetery Fund. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo Community with Pastor Victor Rassmussen officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
