NFU Says Postal Service Change Bad for Rural America

National Farmers Union was disheartened to hear the U.S. Postal Service announcement that Saturday mail deliveries will come to an end beginning August 1st. NFU President Roger Johnson says the elimination of Saturday delivery - coupled with the loss of good-paying postal jobs around the country - will negatively impact the economy. He says the impacts on rural America will be especially harmful. Johnson says local and regional newspaper delivery to outlying areas - in many cases - will be delayed for days. He says this damages the newspaper's circulation numbers and devalues local information and advertising. According to Johnson - rural businesses don't need this economic blow delivered via the mailbox.
