Roger Robert Ring, 71 years of age, of Fort Myers, Florida (formerly of Loomis, Nebraska)
A Celebration of Life Service for Roger R. Ring will be conducted at the North Park Assembly of God Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Steinbach officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Hildreth Cemetery at Hildreth, Nebraska.
Roger Robert Ring, 71 years of age, of Fort Myers, Florida (formerly of Loomis, Nebraska) passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014 in Fort Myers. Roger was born April 8, 1942 in Imperial, Nebraska, the third of five children born to Clarence and Merita (Potter) Ring. He received his primary education from Palisade, Nebraska until his family moved to Holdrege. He attended Holdrege High School and graduated with the class of 1960.
On October 12, 1963, Roger was united in marriage to Lois Covey of Ragan, Nebraska and to this union three daughters were born: Gina, Teresa and Brenda. The family made their home in Loomis, where Roger worked for Cole-Carlson Well Drilling of Loomis. He then went to work in the maintenance department for the Phelps County Department of Roads. In 1970, Roger opened and operated his own welding business in Loomis called Ring Welding. He ran this for 15 years and in 1985, returned to the Phelps County Department of Roads, where he worked until his retirement. In 2007, Roger and Lois made their home in Fort Myers, Florida.
Roger's passion was working with steel and welding. He was a talented fabricator and enjoyed crafting things and had a knack for instinctively knowing how to make something work. He also enjoyed restoring small Maytag engines and thoroughly enjoyed his vehicles throughout the years. Roger also enjoyed curing and smoking meats. He even built his own meat smoking cooker, and was kept busy during many deer hunting seasons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rodney Ring; brother-in-law, John Christiansen; three sisters-in-law: Patricia Ring, Sandra Ring, and Cathy Ring and several aunts and uncles.
Roger leaves to mourn his passing; his wife of 50 years, Lois of Fort Myers; three daughters: Gina Best and her husband, Steve of Grand Island, Nebraska, Teresa Hedden and her husband, Michael of Fort Myers and Brenda Benjamin and her husband, Ralph of Lexington, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Brittany Romano, Cassidy Cook, Weston Wohlgemuth, Kennedy Wohlgemuth, Brandon Burkholder, Joel Burkholder, Carlie Burkholder, Colton Benjamin and Braden Benjamin; two sisters: Gloria Christiansen of Edwards, Mississippi and Linda Buck of Grand Island, Nebraska; one brother, Kenny Ring of Orleans, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family has honored Roger's wish of cremation.
A memorial has been established in Roger's honor and will be designated at a later date.
