Dee Alfred Goracke, 91 years of age, of Hastings, Nebraska

Funeral Services for Dee A. Goracke will be conducted from the Lakeside Fellowship Church in Alma, Nebraska on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Bell officiating. Interment will be held in the Alma Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Fay Cady American Legion Post #118 of Alma in conjunction with the United States Navy Military Honors Team.

Dee Alfred Goracke, 91 years of age, of Hastings, Nebraska (formerly of Alma) passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Hastings. Dee was born July 11, 1922 on the family farm in a rock house in northern Phillips County, Kansas, the fifth of six children born to Joseph and Edna (Bradley) Goracke. He received his education from the Simmon Englewood Rural School in Phillips County, Kansas. Following his education, Dee traveled to Julesburg, Colorado, where he harvested potatoes. He was also employed by the CO-OP in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

On May 23, 1942, Dee was united in marriage to Opal Mae Brandon at Smith Center, Kansas. To this union two daughters were born: Shirley Dee and Charlotte Lea. Dee and Opal resided in Phillipsburg, Kansas until he was inducted into the United States Naval Air Corp on October 3, 1942. At this time, Opal moved back home with her parents. After serving his country during WWII, Dee was honorably discharged on December 4, 1945. Dee and Opal then began to make their home in Alma, where they resided the remainder of their married life. Dee was employed by the Alma Oil Company as a truck driver for over 40 years. Their daughter, Shirley preceded them in death on April 13, 1953 at the age of nine. Following his retirement, Dee enjoyed providing painting and lawn services for the community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal on June 5, 2006. He continued to reside in Alma until his health began to fail and then relocated to the Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Hastings to be near his daughter.

Dee and Opal attended the Alma Evangelical Free Church for many years, which is now known as the Lakeside Fellowship. His hobbies included collecting and restoring antique cars and most of all he loved the time spent with his grandchildren.

In addition to his daughter, Shirley and his wife, Opal; Dee was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Warren Goracke and his wife, Bonnie, Leland Goracke, and Francis Goracke and his wife, Tillie; two sisters: Erma Bugbee and her husband, Melvin and Iva Dennis and her husband, Dick.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his daughter, Charlotte Carlson and her husband, Dennis of Hastings; two grandchildren: Anthony Carlson and his wife, Tera of Shawnee, Kansas and Andrea Carlson and her fiancé, Jeff Evans both of Omaha, Nebraska; three great-grandchildren: Eden, Mia, and Quinn Carlson; sisters-in-law, Louise Brandon of Alma and Myrna Howard of Andover, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Dee's honor and kindly suggested to the Lakeside Fellowship Church in Alma.
