Heineman says lawmakers sent mixed message

Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman said the legislative session that ended Wednesday was a bittersweet session. Heineman told reporters he appreciated their work on child welfare issues, investing in new University of Nebraska medical facilities, and
rebalancing the state's two year budget.

But he was still miffed by a couple veto overrides Wednesday and the fact his tax cut bill was watered down considerably over concern about revenue for future budgets.

One of the veto overrides restored taxpayer-funded prenatal care benefits for illegal immigrants, and the other one gave cities the power to impose voter-approved sales tax increases to a rate as high as 2 percent.
