Gary Dean Mayo, 59 years of age, of Funk, Nebraska
A celebration of life for Gary D. Mayo will be conducted from the Eagles Club in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Gary Dean Mayo, 59 years of age, of Funk, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. He was born April 11, 1954 at Oxford, Nebraska, the fourth of eight children born to Vernon Lee "Red" Mayo and Norma Jean (Keslar) Mayo. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools.
Following his education, Gary was employed by W.F. Anderson Plumbing in Holdrege as a Journeyman Plumber and later years continued to advance in his trade becoming a Master Plumber. Prior to Gary's illness he was the owner/operator of Mayo Plumbing which he operated as long as his health permitted.
On January 21, 1972 he was united in marriage to Cindy Cohagan and to this union one daughter, Barbara Jo Mayo was born. Gary was a member of B.A.N.O, the Holdrege Eagles Club, and served on the City of Holdrege Plumbing Commission. In his earlier years, Gary enjoyed camping and fishing, throughout his life he also had a strong passion for motorcycles, especially his trike. His sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Red Mayo in 1986 and his brother, Terry Mayo in October of 2008.
He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Cindy of Funk; his mother, Norma Mayo of Holdrege; his daughter, Barb Holbrook and her husband, Jeff of Kearney, Nebraska; two grandchildren: Emma and Jacob Holbrook of Kearney; two brothers: Larry Mayo of Holdrege and Ron Mayo and his special friend, Linda of Holdrege; four sisters: Susan Remmenga of Bertrand, Nebraska, Linda Swearingen and her husband, Clyde of Grand Island, Nebraska, Nancy Elting and her husband, Doug of Lincoln, Nebraska and Pam Joy of Holdrege; mother-in-law, Mona Cohagan of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Gary's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Gary's honor and will be designated at a later date.
