Josephine Rhinesmith, 92 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska

Funeral Services for Josephine Rhinesmith will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Jeff Adams, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Josephine Rhinesmith, 92 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the Bethany Home in Minden. Josephine was born on March 22, 1921 at Hohokus, New Jersey, the youngest of five children born to John and Rose (Turkewich) Rehac. She received her primary education and then graduated from Mahwah High School with the class of 1939.

In 1942, Josephine was united in marriage to Alfred L. "Al" Rhinesmith and to this union one daughter, Beverley was born.

In the late 1960s, Al and Josephine moved to Holdrege, where Al worked as a Plant Manager of Artistic Woven Labels and the couple raised cattle and farmed in the Atlanta, Nebraska area for over 40 years. Josephine was a devoted mother, who completely focused her efforts on being a homemaker, wife, and mother. She was also an avid baker.

Josephine was totally focused on animal rights and was very sensitive to the correct treatment of animals. She especially loved her farm cats. Josephine loved her vegetable garden, and raised large Peony and Iris flower gardens.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. She was proud of her Eastern European immigrant background. In February 2012, Josephine and Al celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Al on March 25, 2012. She will be remembered for her personality and quirky sense of humor.

Besides his husband and parents; Josephine was preceded in death by her all her brothers and sisters and their spouses.

Josephine is survived by her daughter, Beverley Rhinesmith-Pape and her fiancé, Paul Patent of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Josephine's honor and kindly suggested to the Phelps County Community Food Pantry.
