NFU Calls on House to Follow Senate's Lead on Farm Bill
National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson is commending Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for his commitment to U.S. agriculture. Reid has signaled the farm bill is priority legislation for the 113th Congress. Johnson says that is a positive way to begin the year and Congressional session. He also thanked Senate Ag Chair Debbie Stabenow - who has pledged to hold a committee markup of the bill as soon as possible - for her continued support. Johnson says farmers and ranchers need the certainty of a five-year farm bill. He says NFU will continue to work with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to garner their support for a bill. Johnson says NFU is also urging House Speaker John Boehner to make the same commitment to rural America.
