Jeanette Lily Fischer, 74 years of age, of Alma

Funeral Services for Jeanette L. Fischer will be conducted from the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, Nebraska on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Ferrarone, officiating. Interment will be in the Naponee Cemetery at Naponee, Nebraska.

Jeanette Lily Fischer, 74 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Jeanette was born April 9, 1939 in rural Franklin County, Nebraska, on the family farm north of Naponee, the youngest of four children born to William J. and Grace G. (Frerichs) Saathoff.

Jeanette was baptized on April 25, 1939 at Oak Grove Lutheran Church north of Naponee and confirmed on March 29, 1953 at the Grace Lutheran Church at Franklin, Nebraska. She graduated from Naponee High School with the class of 1957.

On September 22, 1957, Jeanette was united in marriage to Keith LeRoy Fischer at the Grace Lutheran Church at Franklin. To this union four children were born: Roxie Lynn, who passed away in infancy, Patsy Ann, Douglas Keith and Pamala Jo. The family made their home in Alma, where Jeanette focused her efforts on being a wife, homemaker and most importantly a mother to their children. Jeanette worked several different jobs throughout her life. She started working at Heft Cleaners and GTE Phone Company in Alma. Later, Jeanette started working as a waitress at the D & S Silo Restaurant and The Depot Restaurant, while still employed at the now, Frontier Communications. She retired from Frontier Communications in 2012. Jeanette worked as a seamstress from her home assisting friends and family for many years. On January 24, 2011, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Keith.

Jeanette was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, where she was currently chairwoman of the serving committee. She was also a member of the Wednesday Lunch Bunch and the Alma Red Hat Society.

Jeanette enjoyed Husker Football and Women's Volleyball, fishing, camping, playing cards and games, baking and doing word puzzles and spending time with her family, especially at picnics serving her homemade ice cream. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, and her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Keith, infant daughter, Roxie Lynn, and her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her brothers: Ed Saathoff, Fredrick Saathoff and sister, Evelyn Terry.

Jeanette leaves to mourn her passing; her two daughters: Patsy Scott of Westerville, Ohio and Pamala Burger and her husband, Lyle of Kearney, Nebraska; one son, Douglas Fischer and his wife, Dia of Orleans, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Ryan Burger and his wife, Lisa of Lincoln, Nebraska, Melissa Buckshire and her husband, Travis of Butler, Pennsylvania, Matt Burger of Axtell, Nebraska, Colten Hanshaw of Orleans, Nathan Scott of Westerville, Ohio, and Marilly Fischer of Orleans; three great-grandchildren: Kendra and Noelle Buckshire and Kylie Burger; sister-in-law, Beverly Saathoff of Hastings, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Kenneth Fischer of Alma; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.

A memorial has been established in Jeanette's honor and kindly suggested to the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma.
