Sharon Kay Johnson, 61 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege, following a courageous battle with Breast Cancer. Sharon was born August 2, 1952 in Salinas, California, the fourth of nine children born to Louis and Josephine (Brown) McClain. She received her education from the Lincoln Southeast High School in Lincoln, Nebraska.
In September 1970, Sharon was united in marriage to Lawrence Johnson in Winnipeg, Canada. To this union two children were born: Mike and Lindsay. The family made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Sharon later moved to Holdrege, where she held various jobs, but was best known for being the chef at the Sail Inn Lounge for over 12 years. She enjoyed going to garage sales and buying for others. Sharon especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Sharon was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; and a brother, Vernal McClain, in infancy.
She leaves to mourn her passing: son, Mike Johnson and his wife, Kathy and their children, Levi and Ashlee Johnson, all of Holdrege; daughter, Lindsay Johnson and her significant other, Riley Myers and their children, Ryan, Landon, Ayden and Carter, all of Kearney; four sisters: Valyrea Towne of Campbell, Nebraska, Charlotte Christensen and her husband, Jim of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Jo Ina Slaughter and her husband, Gary of Lyons, Nebraska and Reatha Lieb of Franklin, Nebraska; three brothers, Louis McClain, Jr. and his wife, Monica of Lincoln, Nebraska, Doug McClain of Wilcox, Nebraska and Steve McClain and his wife, Helen of Holdrege; step-mother, Janet McClain of Lincoln; along with a host of extended family, nieces, nephews and many friends.
There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Sharon's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Sharon's honor and is kindly suggested to the family.
