Franklin County Man Pleads to Sexual Assault of a Child
LINCOLN Â Attorney General Jon Bruning announced Christopher D. Shoemaker, 37, of Franklin County pleaded no contest to one count of first degree sexual assault of a child, a Class IB felony. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 21, 2014 in Franklin County District Court.
"This man violated his victim's trust and sexually assaulted her," said Bruning. "This plea is the next step toward justice."
Evidence showed Shoemaker had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old female in 2013. Shoemaker knew the victim prior to the assault.
The investigation was handled in cooperation with the offices of the Attorney General, Franklin County Sheriff, Franklin Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Franklin County Attorney.
The case is being handled by Assistant Attorneys General Charles Byrd and Bill Tangeman.
As part of the Attorney General's 2009 Legislative Package, LB 97 made sexual penetration committed by a person 25 or older against a victim who is between 12 and 15 a Class IB felony with a mandatory minimum 15 years in prison for a first offense.
