Tear gas used during standoff at Gering house
GERING, Neb. (AP) _ Authorities used tear gas before entering a house bedroom to end a standoff in Gering.
A Gering Police Department news release says relatives notified police about 3 a.m. Tuesday that the 22-year-old man had made threats and barricaded himself in the bedroom. They also reported that he might be armed. The house sits just south of Northfield Elementary School.
Gering police called in the Scotts Bluff County SWAT unit and negotiators. Tear gas was used, and officers broke into the room around 6:30 a.m. and discovered that the man appeared to be unconscious.
He was taken to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. His name hasn't been released.
