Nebraska Chautauqua coming to Grand Island in 2013

For the first time since 2000, the Nebraska Chautauqua will be in Grand Island when it comes to Stuhr Museum's Railroad Town next year, June 26th-30th. Kristi Hayek, Nebraska Humanities Council chautauqua coordinator, says the public will have the chance to interact with historic figures, who will be portrayed by scholars.

"You get to see them live and ask them questions. And learn a lot about the history of the time and also make those connections with our own history as well as you know how those events impact or shape things today."

Historic figures slated to be at the chautauqua include Laura Ingalls Wilder, George Washington Carver, Grenville Dodge, Willa Cather, and Chief Standing Bear. The moderator will be Mark Twain.
