Emma Yvonne Sjogren, 85 years of age, of Funk, Nebraska

Memorial Services for E. Yvonne Sjogren will be conducted from the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, Nebraska on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Darrel Wissmann officiating. Private family interment will be in the Fridhem Cemetery at Funk prior to the services.

Emma Yvonne Sjogren, 85 years of age, of Funk, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Yvonne was born February 27, 1928 at Holdrege, the second of three children born to John and Ruby (Bengtson) Lindquist. She received her primary education from Funk Public School through the eighth grade, then attended Holdrege High School for 9th and 10th grades, and then completed her high school education from Luther Academy in Wahoo, Nebraska. She then continued her education to receive her teaching credentials from Luther College in Wahoo. Following her education, Yvonne then taught first and second grades in Axtell, Nebraska for three years. She then continued to be a substitute teacher for many years.

On August 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to Carl Derrel Sjogren at the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk and to this union three children were born: Mary Ann, Janet Ruth and a daughter born at rest.

The family made their home northeast of Funk on the county line for five years, moved north of Funk for five years until moving to the house on the Svante Lind Homestead and then retired into Funk in November, 2002.

Yvonne enjoyed life on the farm, assisting the farming operation by driving the grain truck during harvest and preparing meals to go to the field. She was a lifelong faithful member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, where she was baptized on March 28, 1928 and confirmed on June 20, 1943. Yvonne was devoted to the music ministry and played organ for over 52 years. She was also involved in Circle, quilting, and taught nursery Sunday School and Bible School. She was also a member of the Friendship Club, the couple were honored by the Tre Kroner Society as King and Queen in 1999, she participated with the Axtell Oratorio by singing Handel's Messiah for many years, also served on the Axtell Oratorio Board, and served on the Divide Township Election Committee for twenty years.

Yvonne hosted several meals and activities for the Lind family reunions at the Homestead including homemade ice cream and cookies. She will be remembered for her baked goods of oatmeal cookies, rye bread, pies and Swedish meatballs. She also enjoyed handy work, which included handmade Raggedy Ann and Andy sets for each of her daughters and granddaughters.

Besides her daughter in infancy, Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Ruth at the age of 10; brother, Daniel Arden Lindquist and his wife, Phyllis; brother-in-law, Merle Sjogren; and sister-in-law, Delores Swanson and her husband, Arden.

Yvonne leaves to mourn her passing; her husband of 62 years, Derrel of Funk; two daughters: Mary Ann Paulsen and her husband, James of Funk and Janet Barger and her husband, James of Omaha, Nebraska; five granddaughters: Shelly Gifford and her husband, Tom, Leslie Gerdes and her husband, Jason, Stephanie Todd and her husband, Damien, Krista Jameson and her husband, Robert, and Bethany Barger; five great-grandchildren: Mariska and Alexis Gifford and Lauren, Megan, and Benjamin Gerdes; sister-in-law, Betty Sjogren of Lincoln, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Yvonne's honor and kindly suggested to the Fridhem Lutheran Church, Camp Carol Joy Holling or the donor's choice.
