Millions Raised to Help South Dakota Ranchers

The fund established by the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, Cattlemen's Association and Sheepgrowers Association to help those western South Dakota producers who lost thousands of livestock to the early October blizzard has far surpassed the original goal. The original goal was to collect one-million dollars to help producers with their short-term needs. The fund surpassed the three-million dollar mark before the close of 2013. According to the Associated Press - donations were collected from more than five-thousand groups and individuals. Before year's end - applications for assistance had been processed for almost 400 livestock producers. The December 31st application deadline has now passed and remaining funds will be distributed.
