Sylvia Marie Sattler, 79 years of age, of Bertrand
Mass of Christian Burial for Sylvia M. Sattler will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Father Thomas Lux officiating. Rosary will be recited at the church at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska at 1:30 p.m.
Sylvia Marie Sattler, 79 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Sylvia was born February 14, 1934 at Herndon, Kansas, the sixth of nine children born to Frank and Mary (Unger) Hutfles. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School through eighth grade and graduated from Herndon High School in 1952. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Sylvia attended nursing school at Marymount School of Nursing in Salina, Kansas, graduating in 1955. As a Registered Nurse she was employed at various hospitals, including Brewster Hospital in Holdrege, Nebraska for over 30 years. She then worked at the Bertrand Nursing Home as the Director of Nursing and retired from her nursing career in 1995.
On February 7, 1956, she was united in marriage to John Sattler and to this union seven children were born: Johnita, Gerard, Denise, David, Gina, Susie and Johnny. The family resided in Holdrege, Nebraska, and McDonald, Kansas, until settling in Bertrand for 42 years.
An important part of Sylvia's life was being an active member of All Saints Catholic Church. She and John were involved in various Bible studies through the years. As a talented pianist and musician, she truly enjoyed sharing her music ministry in church and at home.
Sylvia's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed playing cards, shopping, singing and making music. She took pleasure in baking, scrap-booking, card-making, and tending to her flower beds.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Johnita; and her eldest brother, Arnold.
Left to mourn her passing; include her husband, John of Bertrand; six children: Gerard Sattler of Bertrand, David Sattler and his wife, Jane of Kearney, Denise Perrin and her husband, Tim of Arapahoe, Gina Jensen and her husband, Corby of Denton, Nebraska, Susie Conrad and her husband, Rusty of Kearney, and Johnny Sattler and his wife, Colleen of Des Moines, Iowa; four brothers: Gerald Hutfles and his wife, Darlene of Colby, Kansas, Gene Hutfles of Denver, Alvin Hutfles of Larned, Kansas, and Roger Hutfles of Atwood, Kansas; three sisters: Marge Mowry of Colby, Marilyn Weishapl of Atwood, and Angie Rosebrough and her husband, Dick of Topeka, Kansas; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Sylvia's honor and will be designated at a later date.
