Dennis Ward Stuck, 89 of Alma Nebraska
Funeral Services for Dennis W. Stuck will be conducted from the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, Nebraska on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Paul Ferrarone officiating. Interment will follow in the North Johnson Cemetery at Johnson, Nebraska at 4:00 p.m. with Military Honors provided by the Bender-Reese American Legion Post #330 in conjunction with the United States Navy National Guard team.
Dennis Ward Stuck, 89 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Dennis was born April 20, 1924 in rural Nemaha county, near Johnson, Nebraska, the second of two children born to Robert M. and Ida Kathrina (Polsfus) Stuck. His mother preceded him in death at the age of six. He was blessed with a step-mother, Gladys (Zelda) and two more brothers. He graduated from Auburn High School with the class of 1942.
On October 5, 1944 he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Hathaway and to this union five children were born: Wayne, Judy, Katheryn, James and John. The family made their home in Auburn until 1951 when they moved to Alma.
Dennis worked as a Technician for the Soil Conservation Service for 28 years. After his retirement, he and his wife Betty owned and operated a greenhouse and drip irrigation company next door to their home in Alma for close to 15 years.
Dennis enjoyed working in his garden, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed working with his hands and with no construction experience, built the family home and garage in Alma. The family never bought lumber or supplies, relying on there always being a home to tear down and reuse the lumber.
Dennis was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, NARF, the American Legion for over 46 years and the Alma Fire and Rescue Squad for over 47 years.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Stuck and daughter Judy Bickford, both in 2010 and sister, Nadine Hall.
Dennis is survived by his daughter: Katheryn Makinen of Rawlins, Wyoming; sons, James Stuck and his wife, Rita of Nebraska City, Nebraska and John Stuck of Alma; son-in-law, Terry Bickford of West Liberty, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Elaine Stuck of Landcaster, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; 8 great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way; special daughter, Colleen Kramer of Waco, Texas; special mentor, Katie Johnson of Alma; brothers, Ralph Stuck and his wife, Wanda of Holiday Island, Arkansas and Gerald Stuck and his wife, Arlene of Hamberg, Iowa and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
