Obama Tells Heineman And Other Governors "A Couple Of Months" On Keystone Decision
Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman Tuesday tried to clarify President Obama's statement during a meeting with the nation's governors that he planned to make a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline within the "next couple months.
Asked during a conference call with reporters Tuesday what he interpreted that to mean, Heineman gave the president a little leeway on when a decision is now expected, speculating Obama's statement meant an announcement will be made in two to four months.
Heineman also said he remains confident the Nebraska Supreme Court will rule the state's pipeline-siting law is constitutional. The state is currently appealing a lower court's ruling last week that the law is unconstitutional.
Heineman said the legal wrangling over Nebraska's law should not have an impact on the President's decision, since that decision is based on what is in the nation's best interest.
