William "Bill" Daharsh, 67 years of age, of Merritt Island, Florida (formerly of Holdrege, Nebraska)

Funeral Services for William "Bill" Daharsh will be conducted at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Chaplain Daren Popple officiating. Interment will follow at Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska.

William "Bill" Daharsh, 67 years of age, of Merritt Island, Florida (formerly of Holdrege, Nebraska) passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at his home in Merritt Island. Bill was born on June 7, 1946 at Holdrege, the youngest of three children born to Harold and Vera (McConnell) Daharsh. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools and was inducted into the U.S. Army on September 19, 1967. After his honorable discharge, he then returned to Holdrege to help his parents with the Daharsh Wrecking Service.

On November 1, 1970 he was united in marriage to Rogene Lilyhorn and to this union two children were welcomed: Angie and Michael.

Bill cooked and ran restaurants in the area including the Eagles Club, Sale Barn Café and the Tiger Inn Café in Eustis. He also had Daharsh Used Cars. Later, he and his wife, Rogene started the Speak-Easy. The Omaha World Herald once wrote that the population in Sacramento was 6, but soared to 500 on weekends. In 1979, the family moved to Merritt Island, Florida where they started Grandpa's Steak House and Grandma's Lounge. Grandpa's Steak House has been in business for 34 years. Grandma's Lounge was one of the biggest country lounges in the area.

One of the biggest highlights of his life was buying and living in Dr. Don Brewster's house in Holdrege. In Florida, he bought train cars which are used as part of the restaurant. Bill also enjoyed buying and selling antiques and also had an import business.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters: Betty Buettenback and Pat Edlund and her husband, George.

Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rogene; two children: Angie Head and Michael Daharsh both of Port St. John, Florida; grandchildren: Corey Daharsh, Brianna Head, Devon Daharsh, Alexis Daharsh and twin girls, Zoe and Raven Head all of Florida; his mother-in-law, Mary Louise Lilyhorn of Holdrege; brothers-in-law, Dale Lilyhorn and his wife, Janice of Lincoln, Nebraska, Wendell Lilyhorn and his wife, Barbara of Hutchinson, Kansas, Robert Buettenback and his wife, Earlene of St. Louis, Missouri; sister-in-law, Joanne Marsh of Albuquerque, New Mexico; several nieces, nephews, cousins and thousands of good loyal customers both in Nebraska and Florida.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Florida.

A memorial has been established in Bill's honor and will be designated at later date.
