Moose herded out of Mitchell

For the first time in anyone's memory, a moose was in Mitchell Sunday evening. Mitchell Police Chief Mike Cotant says the moose was reported standing on 13th Street on the northeast side of Mitchell shortly after 7 p.m.

Cotant says Mitchell police officer Seth Gott with assistance from Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Perkins responded to the area.

Cotant says they had some difficulty getting it herded out of Mitchell because the moose did not want to cross the Tri-State Canal at the bridge. Cotant says the moose eventually got into the canal, swam across to the other side, and headed north.

Cotant says it was a bull moose with big antlers. It is not known whether this is the same moose that has been spotted in other areas of Scotts Bluff County this summer.
