Dennis L. Holen, 62 years of age, of Overton, Nebraska

Funeral Services for Dennis L. Holen will be conducted from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, Nebraska on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastors Ted Carnahan and Gary Panko officiating. Interment will be in the Immanuel Cemetery north of Bertrand following the services.

Dennis L. Holen, 62 years of age, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Dennis was born August 29, 1950 at Lexington, Nebraska, the third of seven children born to Bernard J. and Winnifred (Wallin) Holen. He received his education from Bertrand Community School, graduating from Bertrand High School with the class of 1968. He then pursued higher education at Hastings Tech and later in years Grand Island Community College.

Following his education, he was united in marriage on August 19, 1972 to Barbara Kay Noble of Overton. The couple cared for over 60 foster children throughout the years, and five of those children they adopted into their family. And one daughter was adopted at birth.

The family made their home in Overton, where Dennis was employed by Philpot Feedlot, and Country Side Land and Cattle Company. Most recently, Dennis was employed by NTV as an Electrical Engineer until his failing health.

Dennis loved the time spent at Johnson's Lake, he enjoyed tending to his garden, and most of all he loved to socialize with his friends during a cup of coffee. First and foremost in his life was his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Lois Holen; one sister, Janet Oliva and her husband, Lynn; and a niece, Elizabeth Erickson.

Dennis leaves to mourn his passing; his children: Brandy Echeverria and her husband, Tom of Grand Island, Nebraska, Jessica Holen of Kearney, Nebraska, Kathy Holen and her fiancé, Kenny Bruntz of Topeka, Kansas, Noel Sandlin of Lincoln, Nebraska, Tova Holen of Kearney and Gavin Holen of Lexington, Nebraska; his former wife, and life-long friend, Barb Holen of Overton; eight grandchildren: Ffiona, Chevee, and Lola Echevirria, Kayden and Kyndal Bruntz, Noah, Isaac, and Gage Sandlin; four brothers: Dale Holen and his wife, Joy of Riverton, Wyoming, Randall Holen and his wife, Jenny of Kearney, Kyle Holen and his wife, Betty of Grand Island and John Nelson and his wife, Janet of Omaha, Nebraska; three sisters: Kris Blaschko and her husband, Albert of Kearney, Deb Aldrich and her husband, Randal of Holdrege, and Darcy Skrdla and her husband, Jerome of Gretna, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Dennis' honor and will be designated at a later date.
