The Lexington Area United Way is having a t-shirt design contest with Dawson and Gosper county 5th graders.

The winning design will be featured on the United Way's 5k shirt, which will be used during their first annual 5k Walk/Run at the Johnson Lake Paul Matson Trails on April 26th.

Director Dawn Holbein says including students is good for education, one of three building blocks of life.

"The United Way basically prides itself on the three building blocks of life...education, income, and health. And we thought doing a 5k would definitely benefit everybody's health, and we thought with some educational pieces we would include the students in the area."

Holbein says designs are due by the end of the day Friday, February 28th. If not handing them into teachers, students can mail them to the United Way at P.O. Box 36 in Lexington or drop them off at the office located at Plum Creek Mall.

Check in for the 5k Walk/Run will be from 7:00-8:00 a.m. Start time is 9:00. Registration can be online at getmeregistered.com or by paper.
