Jerry Lyn Leach, 63 years of age, of Oxford

Celebration of Life Service for Jerry L. Leach will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Jenkins, officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Jerry Lyn Leach, 63 years of age, of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Harlan County Health System in Alma, Nebraska. Jerry was born December 27, 1949 at Holdrege, Nebraska, the third of five children born to Conner and Betty (Martin) Leach. The family made their home in Beaver City, Nebraska until moving to Elm Creek, Nebraska, where Jerry received his education.

On February 4, 1968 he was united in marriage to Barbara Jo Schleeter and to this union three children were born: Bill, Jerilyn and Shelly. Through the years the family resided in Edison and Oxford, where Jerry was employed as a farmhand for area farmers, until he began a career in truck driving hauling milk to the Cheese Factory in Oxford. Jerry also hauled fertilizer and grain for Ag Valley CO-OP out of Edison. He also enjoyed welding at Broeker Welding for several years. His work ethic will be remembered by his family, and as Jerry continued to say, "I'm going to retire next year."

Jerry's hobbies included: restoring antique tractors, woodworking, especially creations out of old barn wood, and collecting antique saws. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed coon hunting, loved to fish and play cards. Most of all, Jerry loved the time spent with his grandchildren. In the years past, he spent over twenty-five years between the Edison and Oxford Volunteer Fire Departments.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Jerry leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 45 years, Barb Leach of Oxford; his mother, Betty Leach of Beaver City; three children: Bill Leach and his special friend, Janiece Jones of Grand Island, Jerilyn Mayo and her husband, Bill of Oxford, and Shelly Broeker and her husband, Steve of Oxford; eight grandchildren: Jackie Mayo, Alex Kermmoade, Miranda and Arika Mayo, BaiLeigh and Brennin Leach, Callie and Cole Broeker; two brothers: Garey Leach of Oxford and Robert Leach of Beaver City; two sisters: Myrna Peterson and her husband, Ray of Tucson, Arizona and Linda Odell and her husband, Marvin of Holdrege; brothers-in-law: Rick Streeter and his wife, Darrie of Holdrege and Randy Streeter and his wife, Terry of Hastings, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Beverly Refior of Odessa, Nebraska and Sheila Streeter of Emerson, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Book Signing will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
A memorial has been established in Jerry's honor and will be designated at a later date.
